How to create a weekly devotional

A practical format for a weekly moment of Bible reading, prayer, reflection, and action.

A devotional does not need to be long to be meaningful. Protect a time you can keep each week, choose a short passage, and let go of the idea that every reading must produce a great discovery.

Four movements

Read the text twice, notice a phrase or image, respond to God in prayer, and choose one concrete action for the week. Write everything in a few lines. Next week, reread the note before beginning a new meeting.

You can follow a Bible book, your church’s reading plan, or one theme for several weeks. A small path repeated with sincerity forms more than an impossible goal.
