A Prayer for Sadness

A prayer for when sadness feels heavy and hope is hard to find.

Lord, sometimes sadness arrives without warning and settles in my chest like a weight I cannot explain. Things lose their color, the days feel long, and even what once brought joy seems out of reach. In those moments it is hard to pray — but I am here because I need You.

When my pain does not fit into words, when everything feels dark and exhaustion outweighs my strength, remind me that I am not alone. Let Your gaze find me even when I cannot look up. Let Your embrace hold me when no other comfort comes.

Take from me the shame of crying, the fear of not being strong enough, the feeling that this pain will last forever. Teach me that it is possible to hurt and still trust. That it is possible to stumble and be welcomed back.

Father, restore to my heart the taste for life. Do not ask me to pretend that everything is fine; receive my pain as it is and transform it little by little. Let me find rest in Your arms and, when the time comes, also in the people beside me.

Through Your mercy, grant me peace and let a hope be born in me that does not depend on circumstances but on Your love that never fails. Amen.
