The seven sacraments of the Catholic Church
An introductory explanation of the seven sacraments and their place in Catholic Christian life.
In the Catholic Church, the sacraments are visible signs of God’s grace entrusted to the community. They accompany essential moments of Christian life and point toward faith, conversion, and communion rather than existing as isolated services.
The sacraments of initiation are Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. Those of healing are Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick. Holy Orders and Matrimony serve the communion of the Church.
Where to begin
If you are preparing for a sacrament, contact your parish and speak with the catechism team. An online page can offer an introduction, but it does not replace community preparation or pastoral accompaniment.
